The proposal for the enhancement of the waterfront of the city of Cattolica moves from an topical issue: the relationship of man with his environment in a perspective of greater well-being and comfort, but also and above all of greater social and economic balance.
As emerges from the “Manifesto of the green economy for the future city”, the rebirth of our cities necessarily involves an alliance between urban planning, sustainable mobility and above all new green spaces. The waterfront of the city of Cattolica should become the emblem of this change. This portion of the city enjoys a unique value given by two of its most evident characteristics: the coastal landscape and the tourist vocation. The project must not forget to find a balance between these two elements by enhancing the first to trigger the necessary economic boost in the second. At the same time it has to elaborate them in order to embody the desire for change, but finding an entirely Catholic solution, useful for preserving its uniqueness. In proposing a possible solution, the project pursues two fundamental principles: The first is a strong idea of sustainability understood in its most current meaning. Hence the planning of the greater quantity of green area, the search for the lowest environmental footprint and the propensity for public transport systems and cycle mobility; the idea of a coexistence between city and nature, respectful, capable of making us live with more quality, understood as an essential prerequisite for the future. The second is a constant search for the identity of the place. The material choices, the composition of the spaces, the low, direct and immediate dialogue of the walk with the horizon of the sea recall the history of the country. Design choices that strongly refer to a sense of belonging present on the Riviera Romagnola. An identity that has been represented many times. Starting from these two principles, we imagined a waterfront as an extensive city park capable of quickly connecting two parts of the city. A green belt in which to stop and transit in which public transport and cycle mobility have the possibility of gradually replacing private vehicular mobility. A place where the relationship with nature and in particular with the sea is continuous. In which there is a walk capable of recalling a near past but that is fully capable of representing an avant-garde city and a more responsible future tourism.
